KEEP.DONATE.SELL

Decluttering is the most difficult part of the organizing process. It’s the part that causes most people to get overwhelmed and want to quit. While decluttering can start to seem like a chaotic whirl of emotions.

Having a predetermined set of qualifications for what you choose to keep or toss prevents the emotionally taxing process of deciding if you really want to let go of that buried box of wedding china you never use. It helps you feel empowered throughout the process, because you have already decided what makes an item “keep-worthy”.

Before you get started, create three piles: keep, toss, and donate. As you go through everything, toss anything that does not meet the “keep” criteria.

In order for it to be "keep worthy," the answer to one of these questions must be “yes”.

Ask yourself, Do I use it? Do I need it? If you don’t use it and it doesn’t or need it , toss it or donate it.

Also, ask yourself these questions

Have I used it in the last 6 months? (For seasonal-items, allow 1 year)

The great thing about decluttering is that as hard as it may feel to toss things, once the clutter is gone it's gone. Your space will feel lighter when you’ve removed all the extra stuff and l keep the things that really add to your life!
